Hello MaCES Leaders,

Please mark your calendars! The Judicial Council of California has confirmed that Judge E. Carlos Dominguez of the Los Angeles Superior Court will formally present MaCES with the California Civic Learning Award on October 24th at 3:30 p.m. in the MPR. We felt it is important to invite all the service groups highlighted in our application. The judge is expected to share a few words and has offered to officially swear in our multitude of service organizations as they assume their leadership roles for the year. Please share this event with your student leaders and members. We've invited staff, district representatives, and elected officials. Please RSVP if you plan to attend by clicking on the green button. Swearing In Wording (to be recited as a group)

I, (State your Name) do solemnly swear that I will diligently execute the position as a student leader, and will, to the best of my ability, uphold, promote, and support the ideas, activities, and constitution of my service organization.

I will serve as a positive role model, leader, and voice for the student population and will represent the Wolfpack on campus and in my community to the best of my ability.

E. Carlos Dominguez was appointed a Judge in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Prior, he served as Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice, briefing and arguing cases in the California Supreme Court, California Court of Appeal, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. He worked in private practice from 2005-2009 and earned an undergraduate degree from UCLA and a Juris Doctor from the USC School of Law, where he returned as a Lecturer in Law in 2021. In addition to being a LACBA trustee, Carlos has served on the association’s Criminal Justice and Diversity in the Profession sections plus the 2020-2021 Racial and Social Justice Task Force. His wide range of community service includes being California Change Lawyers board member and working pro bono for domestic violence victims. His dedication has been honored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the California Attorney General, and the State Bar of California.
