The Directing Change program will hold its 12th annual Award Ceremony at the historic
The United Theater on Broadway on Tuesday, May 21st. The event will be attended by nearly 1,000 middle school and high school students, as well as parents, contest judges, mental health providers, and entertainment professionals. The event will celebrate excellence in mental health storytelling and will include screenings of youth-created films from across California, spoken word and musical performances, and the announcement of statewide contest winners. The youth films will help raise awareness of mental health and suicide prevention and will be submitted to one of the following categories: Suicide Prevention, Mental Health, Through the Lens of Culture, Walk in Our Shoes, Animated Short, or Hope & Justice.

NOTES:
The event runs from 11 am – 2 pm, and due to the nature of the event, early dismissal will not be possible (it can be very distracting and disrespectful to the students receiving awards and screening their films).
 
Outside food and drink are not allowed in the theater. Please plan to eat a bag lunch on the bus on the way to the venue or once you’ve arrived in the parking lot. We are still getting information regarding availability of concessions at the theater and will update you ASAP.

Only films that placed first in our regional and statewide competitions will be shown at the ceremony. Any films that won another placement (2nd , 3 rd , etc.) or honorable mention or did not receive an award will not be screened.
 
Bring your own lunch, if possible.

If you choose, do dress for the occasion.
