Biography

Gabriel Duran is the founding principal of Maywood Center for Enriched Studies. With over thirty years of experience, he has been an administrator at the elementary, middle, and high school level in the Los Angeles Unified School District. 

He has served as an Elementary and Special Education Teacher, a Categorical Program and Intervention Coordinator, an Assistant Principal, and Local District Operations Coordinator. 

The Association of California School Administrators awarded Mr. Duran the Principal of the Year in 2019. Recently, he was recognized as a Cahn Fellow in 2023. 

Mr. Duran is committed to ensuring a quality education for all students based on their unique social, emotional, physical, and intellectual characteristics. He believes in a humanistic approach in providing leadership and communicating with administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, and students.
